Frequently Asked Questions

How early should I arrive for a Counselling session?

It is best that you arrive as near to the time of your session as possible. Please know that there is a waiting area near reception as well as seats in the café further down the hallway. I might be seeing other clients so, please do not knock on the Counselling Room door. I will come out of the room to meet you. Thank you for your understanding.

How long does a Counselling session last?

Usually 50 minutes however, the Initial Assessment may take an hour especially if you are a Couple. I may suggest that we continue assessment to make sure that I am the right counsellor for you. This would involve individual assessments and then another together session to make sure it is the right Counselling for you both.

What is the average number of Counselling sessions a person/couple needs?

It really depends, some people find that just a few sessions are useful. However, it would be fair to say that an average estimate is between 8 and 12 sessions, but many people have more sessions. Please know there is no right or wrong, it is client specific and led by you. We would always discuss ongoing sessions during session.

Do you counsel all ages?

In my Private Practice I counsel clients 18+ years to 90+ years young!

Can I bring children/babies to the Counselling Sessions?

I am afraid this would not be suitable or practical. I understand it is difficult to sometimes find childcare but it would not be fair on you as a client/clients or the children. If the session was to become emotionally difficult the children/babies would pick up on this. Also, you would not be benefiting 100% from the session and you would be wasting your time and money.

Is there disability access/disability parking?

Yes there is at the Golf Road Centre, Deal, CT14 6PY for further details check out their website.

What happens if I want to stop my/our Counselling sessions?

It would be something that we would discuss and generally we would all know that it would be an ending session when you wanted to finish. Of course if you decide to not come back at any time that is your choice. Just to reiterate sessions are very much client led and there is no pressure to continue sessions if you no longer want to attend but it is useful if we all know that the session is going to be the last one. This allows me as your Counsellor to hold the session appropriately and to ensure that you are supported in the best way possible.

What if I want to come back for a Counselling Session but not seen you in a while?

Depending on the time that has gone by it might be necessary to have another assessment.

Are the Counselling Sessions confidential?

The Counselling Sessions are Confidential however, please see my Confidentiality & Safety Guidelines in the Counselling Services Section of the Website for further advice and guidance.

Are there any books you recommend?

Yes sure, please check out my book recommendations in the Helpful Resources Section of my website.

What is your cancellation policy?

The full session fee for cancellations and missed appointments without 24 hours’ notice will be applied. However, if there are unforeseen events/circumstances such as illness, injury, or weather challenges then this can be discussed at the time.

What happens if we meet outside of a session?

I would not approach you. However, if you said hello to me, I would of course say hello back.
